Description:
Academic Health Center (AHC) Building 1, a 4-story building of approximately 117,600 GSF, was built in 2002. AHC Building 2, a 6-story building of approximately 120,000 GSF, opened in 2005. MOBIO, in association with building envelope consultant IBA Consultants, Inc., assessed the existing buildings’ envelope conditions to investigate issues causing water infiltration in both facilities. The outcome of this assessment defined the scope of work required to remediate these water infiltration issues. The scope for this project encompassed the capital remodeling of both buildings’ envelopes. It included the re-stucco, the sealing of all curtain wall systems, store front, doors, and windows of the entire envelopes of both buildings. In addition, the scope required the development of construction contract documents for the removal and installation of a new roof system for AHC 2 building. The design of the new roofing was in full compliance with current building codes and FIU design standards.
