Description:
The project consisted of the expansion, remodeling, and renovations of Terminal 1 of Tocumen International Airport. Tocumen needed to respond to the traffic demand increase as well as the continued growth of Copa Airlines in the region. The scope of work encompasses the expansion of the three-story main terminal building for a total of 247,500 SF, including the design and Construction of the new offices for Tocumen, S.A. of an area of 16,200 SF. The airport increased its operation capacity from existing 14 gates to 22 fixed and 10 remote positions. In addition, there was a capital remodeling and renovations of the existing 270,000 SF main terminal. Remodeling and Expansion of the existing two-story connectors to Satellites A and B. Renovations of the existing Satellites A and B hold rooms and increasing their number of gates from 5 to 6 per Satellite. The construction of two Annex Support Buildings (1) Public Services Building of 16,000 SF and (2) Maintenance, Storage, and Airport Operations & Management Building of 25,800 SF.
The project was initiated in July 2004, completed in June 2006, and delivered design-build. It was planned to be built in phases to assure the continuous operations of the airport through the construction period. Services included planning, architecture and engineering design and construction contract administration along with full coordination with local Panamanian professionals and various sub-contractors.
